Review PLYMOUTH Original 58 Dual Carter Wcfb Carburetors 2631s 2632s fits FURY QUAD 57

The Plymouth Fury dual quad cars from the years 1957 and 1958 were iconic automobiles known for their powerful engines and distinctive design. At the heart of these muscle cars was the Carter WCFB Carburetor, specifically model numbers 2631S and 2632S.

The Carter WCFB (Wide-Flange Bore) carburetors were a high-performance option for these vehicles. They were designed to provide efficient fuel delivery to the engine, enhancing power and acceleration. The dual quad setup, with two four-barrel carburetors, offered improved engine response and throttle sensitivity, making the Fury a true driving experience.

The Carter 2631S and 2632S carburetors were built with precision and attention to detail. They featured a float-type design, with the primary function being to maintain a constant fuel level in the float bowls, ensuring a steady fuel supply to the engine. The carburetors were also equipped with accelerator pumps, which delivered additional fuel to the engine during acceleration for smoother power delivery.

These Carter carburetors were designed with a wide-flange bore, allowing for larger intake valves and increased airflow. The result was a more powerful engine that breathed easier, leading to improved performance and engine efficiency. The carburetors were also constructed with durable materials, including brass bodies and stainless steel floats, ensuring long-lasting reliability.

The Carter 2631S and 2632S carburetors for the Plymouth Fury came with various emissions controls, depending on the year and regulations. For the 1957 model, the carburetors did not have any specific emissions controls. However, for the 1958 model, they were equipped with a vacuum secondary system, which helped to reduce hydrocarbon emissions.

Installing these Carter carburetors on a Plymouth Fury requires some knowledge and experience in automotive repair. It is recommended that the installation be performed by a professional mechanic or a knowledgeable enthusiast. Proper tuning and adjustment are essential to ensure optimal performance and fuel efficiency.

In summary, the Plymouth Fury dual quad cars from 1957 and 1958 were iconic muscle cars, and the Carter WCFB Carburetors, specifically model numbers 2631S and 2632S, were a crucial component of their high-performance engines. These carburetors offered efficient fuel delivery, increased power, and improved engine response, making them a desirable upgrade for any Plymouth Fury enthusiast.

A Comparative Analysis of Plymouth Fury Dual Quad Carburetors (2631s and 2632s) for 1957 and 1958 - Pros, Cons, and Recommendations

Introduction:

The Plymouth Fury, introduced in 1956, was a full-sized automobile manufactured by Chrysler Corporation. The 1957 and 1958 models of this iconic vehicle were available with the powerful dual-quad Carter WCFB carburetors, specifically the 2631s and 2632s. In this analysis, we will discuss the pros and cons of investing in these carburetors for your Plymouth Fury restoration or performance project.

Pros of 2631s Carburetors:

1. Increased Horsepower: The primary advantage of the 2631s carburetor is its ability to provide a significant horsepower boost. It is estimated to deliver around 325 horsepower, making it an excellent choice for power enthusiasts.

2. Improved Idle Stability: This carburetor features a vacuum secondary system, which provides improved idle stability and smoothness.

3. Better Fuel Economy: Compared to other high-performance carburetors, the 2631s offers better fuel economy due to its efficient fuel metering.

Cons of 2631s Carburetors:

1. Complexity: The 2631s carburetor is more complex than the standard single-barrel carburetors. This complexity can result in increased maintenance requirements and potential issues.

2. Limited Flexibility: The vacuum secondary system may limit the flexibility of the carburetor in certain driving conditions, such as off-idle or high-RPM situations.

3. Potential Tuning Challenges: Fine-tuning the 2631s carburetor can be a challenge, requiring expertise and patience to achieve optimal performance.

Pros of 2632s Carburetors:

1. Simplified Design: The 2632s carburetor features a simplified design, with a single four-barrel linkage and separate secondary throttle plates. This design results in easier installation, maintenance, and tuning.

2. Wide Powerband: The 2632s offers a wide powerband, providing excellent performance throughout the RPM range.

3. Improved Acceleration: With a larger venturi size and increased fuel flow, the 2632s carburetor delivers improved acceleration compared to the standard single-barrel carburetor.

Cons of 2632s Carburetors:

1. Reduced Horsepower: The 2632s carburetor produces slightly less horsepower compared to the 2631s, with an estimated output of around 300 horsepower.

2. Increased Cost: The simplified design of the 2632s carburetor does not come without a price increase. These carburetors are generally more expensive than their 2631s counterparts.

3. Potential Fuel Economy Trade-off: While the 2632s offers improved performance, it may come at the cost of reduced fuel economy compared to the 2631s.

Conclusion:

Both the Plymouth Fury 2631s and 2632s carburetors offer unique advantages and disadvantages for performance enthusiasts. The 2631s carburetor is an excellent choice for those seeking maximum horsepower and improved idle stability, while the 2632s offers a simplified design, wide powerband, and improved acceleration. Ultimately, the decision between these carburetors depends on your specific performance goals, budget, and expertise level.

Recommendation:

For those seeking a balance between power, ease of use, and affordability, the Plymouth Fury 2632s carburetor is the recommended choice. Its simplified design offers ease of installation, maintenance, and tuning, while its wide powerband and improved acceleration deliver impressive performance throughout the RPM range. However, if maximum horsepower is your top priority, the 2631s carburetor remains a viable option, despite its added complexity and maintenance requirements.
